Nearby Activities

Everywhere listed here is a place we walk to on a regular basis. Some are further than others and you may want to drive at least partway, but all that is to say that everything is quite close.

Some of these are part of the Hamilton Conservation Authority (HCA) and require reservations, especially if you have a vehicle. But walk there from The Hayloft and save yourself some cash!

Webster Falls (HCA)

From The Hayloft it is about 15-20 minutes walk. Depending on the time of year and time of day, you don't need to pay for entry (we never have). The park itself doesn't have a lot of hiking per se but there are plenty of Insta-worthy shots to be had. You could even bring a picnic!

Dundas Peak/Spencer Gorge (HCA)

Arguably the most popular destination for tourists in the area, famous for its spectacular views of the Dundas Valley, Hamilton, and beyond.

Oak-Maple Walk

At the end of our street there is a beautiful and moderately challenging woodsy hike that can be done as a circuit, or you can connect to Maple Avenue and walk back through the neighbourhood. If you are feeling  ambitious,  take the Mountain Access Trail across the train tracks and tackle McCormack Trail which leads to the Dundas Valley Conservation Area.

Webster Falls Outlet

There used to be a staircase descending to the base of Webster Falls and hikers could continue to the town of Dundas along Spencer's Creek. The staircase is gone, and if you want to reach the falls, you'll need to take the easy/moderate, gorgeous walk from the other side. Park near Fisher's Mill Park. It'll take about 60-90 minutes in and back.
